Thursday Sep 29, 2022
Thursday Sep 29, 2022
They're back, with more vocal fry than ever! If you thought the title was something clever, it's not, it's exactly what the episode is about! Hope and Jackie watch the 2009 documentary The September Issue, which features Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, and the whole Vogue #family as they work on the biggest issue of the year. Instead of watching for funzies, they watch through the lens of Michel Foucault's theory of Panopticism, thinking about the power that Vogue has over our ideas of norms. Enjoy!

Their self-proclaimed Best Sounding Episode Yet, this week Hope and Jackie are bringing you hard hitting journalism as they talk to a worker from a Crossroads Trading location that is in the process of unionizing (and getting busted.) Next, Hope talks about the connection between fashion and surrealism in the early 20th century, featuring scuffles between art bros, furry teacups, and of course, Elsa Schiaparelli.

You guessed it, we're hopping in on the convo about twee, but we're taking you back to the 1990s with the record label that started it all! Skip the first 20 minutes if you want to get right to it (but you'll miss Jackie's psychic love prediction and Hope's strange reason for wanting to get pregnant). Stay till the end to hear tunes from Jackie's twee days in Nashville!
Sorry about the weird sound in this one - tried to get it out quickly bc we went viralish on TikTok not to brag.
